SLOW DOWN AND SMELL THE WILDFLOWERS Hike along Lake Pepin and enjoy some of the best wildflower viewing in Minnesota on Saturday, April 30th at Frontenac State Park. Wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots due to areas of steep and often uneven terrain. We will walk 2-3 miles, taking time to stop and enjoy the flowers as well as the scenery.
Quote of Note: "On previous Earth Days we have offered a solution: The President should set the standard by delivering a message to the Congress on the state of the environment, citing priorities that need to be addressed...But without Presidential and Congressional leadership, even an enlightened public cannot cope with the greatest challenge of our time." --Senator Gaylord Nelson, founder of Earth Day

Your firehouse has wheels. Some of your firefighters respond in horse and buggies. You've ever gotten back and found out you locked yourselves out of the firehouse. Fire training consists of everyone standing around a fire getting drunk. You've ever been toned out on an outhouse fire...

(Likely applies to half world population.) In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almo...

Not much to say this week. The transplants are all doing excellent. The seedlings have taken off in the larger buckets and new sprouts are coming up daily. The clones are starting to grow faster every day now but they’re starting to flower just like the other ones did before going into the flowering chamber. Bush's 7 Deadly Sins 1. Turning Mom Into a Superfund Site A Bush proposal to weaken clean-air rules would put three times more mercury into our air and water than existing rules would allow. One in six women has enough mercury in her system to risk her kid having brain damage, mental retardation, blindness, seizures, and speech impediments. Not exactly friendly to the rights of the unborn, is it, George? 2. Belly Flop in a Cesspool Nobody much likes sewage, except maybe sewer rats...
A Brief Overview of the Bush Administration's Mercury Rule for Coal Plants and their misnamed “Clear Skies Initiative” Mercury is a toxic element of coal that is released into the air when power plants burn coal to produce electricity. This mercury ends up in the water where it is converted into methylmercury and builds up through the food chain to contaminate the fish that we eat. Through the consumption of fish, the Environmental Protection Agency recently estimated that one in six w...
